School Community Council Minutes
September 8, 2022
3:50pm in the Conference Room
In Attendance: Dallas Stahle, Valarie Plowman, Brooke Brandt, Glen Harris
- Welcome- SCC roster – Welcomed Dallas and Brooke as new members of the council. Found one error on the roster that will be fixed.
- Review purpose and role of SCC – Viewed video from Trustlands website regarding an explanation of what the School Trustlands program is all about. Each member was given a binder that includes the law regarding Trustlands. We reviewed it and read and discussed the section on the responsibilities of the School Community Council.
- Elect Chair/Co-Chair – Glen nominated Valarie Plowman as chair of the SCC for this year. Brooke seconded the motion. The vote was 4-0 in favor of her being the chair. Glen nominated Dallas as the co-chair. Valarie seconded the motion. The vote was 4-0 in favor of Dallas being the co-chair.
- New Trustland Information/signatures required at this first meeting – Glen informed the council that shortly the state will be sending them an email regarding an electronic signature from them stating that they are willing to participate on the SCC this year. Glen submitted the names of our board, but the state hasn’t emailed them out yet.
- Update on School Opening and Procedures- Glen reviewed the new procedures of the school in terms of gaining entry to the building. The SCC was informed that the district is pulling wires currently for a buzz in system. The equipment for this won’t arrive until the end of October. In the meantime, individuals must use their cell phones to call the school to gain entry. The feedback from the council is that parents appreciate what we are doing to keep their kids safe.
- Review budget for the year/expenditures so far – Initial budget was placed in binders and reviewed. So far, the PLC conference our teachers will be going to has been paid for with the trustlands funds.
- Mobile Chromebook Lab-TSSA funds has bought another mobile lab, but it hasn’t arrived yet.
- Para-professionals-Para-pro’s that are being paid for by Trustlands and TSSA have begun work.
- Trustlands: This is a summary of both plans. This was reviewed. A complete plan for Trustlands was placed in members binders. They were shown were to find that.
- 4 Reading Aides completely paid by.
- 10 Teachers for the PLC conference (Question on whether they are going to hold it live year)
- Netsmart Assembly
- TSSA Grant:
- 3 math/writing aides (Grades 1, 2, 5, 6)
- Computer Monitors/Mobile Chromebook Lab
- Help with 2 additional aides
- $17,000 to help fund school counselor

October 20, 2022

- Approve September Minutes Motion to approve: Valarie Motion seconded: Dallas Stahle Approved: Alyse, Glen, Valarie, Dallas
- Review current Trustlands Budget. Update on purchases. No new purchases this month.
- Report on PLC conference that teachers attended on Oct. 3-5 Alyse attended the conference and gave a description of sessions attended. Teachers who attended will present what they learned to the rest of the teachers on Oct. 28.
- Review of District School Community Council Training Glen and Alyse attended. Essentially the same information we reviewed in our last SCC meeting.
- Review School Goal results for 2021-2022 We reviewed the handout with the goals and talked about each goal and what the results were for each one.
- State Report Card We received a copy of the report card and also a handout that had our school’s, district’s and state’s RISE results. Our school and district scored significantly higher then the state. Our grade was a B as well as most of the 17 elementary schools in our district.
- Review School Goals for 2022-2023 With all that data in mind our school goals for the year were presented. Likely it will be one or two of these goals that will be used for our Trustlands plan.
- School Safety Review Discussed that we are close to installing our “buzz in” system for the front door. We also discussed our school’s plan for parent/student reunification in the event our school is evacuated.
- Review school activities- Wolf Howl Run tomorrow

- Halloween-We discussed the Halloween guidelines. The council still supports this policy.
- Halloween is just around the corner. We know it’s a very exciting time for our students. We want them to enjoy the day, but it’s still an important academic day here at school as well. We would like to capture the best of both worlds. Students are welcome to wear a school friendly costume that complies with our dress code if they adhere to the following stipulations.
- No Masks or extremely heavy make-up that covers/obscures the head/face (No complete covering of the face with makeup. We need to be able to tell who the children are without much effort).
- No toy weapons.
- No Blood and Guts, “softer” characters, please.
- Costumes should not be so distracting that it interferes with teachers’ instruction.
- No hand-held costume accessories, they often turn into nuisance items in the classroom and on the playground.
- Red Ribbon Week Oct. 31-Nov. 4 Reviewed what this is about and what will occur each day.
- Parent/Teacher Conferences on Nov. 17, 18. Teacher Prep Day on Nov. 14. Parent window to make appointments Nov. 4-14. Students released at 1 pm on Thursday. No students on Friday. Say Boo to the Flu will be here to give flu shots.

- Netsmartz Assembly has been scheduled for January 10. There will be 2 assemblies, K-2 (25 minutes), 3-6 (35 minutes)
- School Safety Report

- Purchase of monitors with TSSA for teachers 30 monitors, will occur when we receive the Tools for School Grants
- Veterans Day Assembly tomorrow at 10am. Only families with a veteran guest are invited due to space available.
- Parent Window for making appointments for Parent/Teacher Conferences Open Nov. 4-14
- Parent/Teacher Conferences on Nov. 17, 18. Teacher Prep Day/No School for Students on Nov. 14. Students released from school at 1pm on Thursday. No school for students on Friday. No kindergarten on Thursday and Friday.
- Say Boo to the Flu shot clinic open here at school during Parent Conferences.

January 12, 2023

- Approve November Minutes Kiesha motioned to approve, Alyse seconded the motion. All voted in favor to approve.
- Review current Trustlands Budget. In the review it was noticed that the money for the PLC conference still has not been taken out. Glen will follow up on that with the district office. Otherwise most major expenses has been paid, except for salaries. Salaries are monthly expenses and is being spent down at a rate that is expected.
- Review Netsmartz Assembly: How did it go? Is this something we would like to do again next year? Alyse spoke about this since she was there. She spoke very positively about what was taught and thought it was presented in an excellent manner. Committee seems to feel like they would like to continue paying for this assembly.
- Science Fair/STEMfest on Wednesday, January 25. Kiesha talked about where we are at in the planning process. The parent meeting was well attended and demonstrates that there is a high interest this year. There could be up to 8 community groups helping with the STEMfest portion of this event.
- Parent/Teacher Conferences will be March 2 and 3. There will be a teacher prep day on Tuesday, February 21. Students won’t attend school on that day. Discussed upcoming conferences and also the dates students will not be attending school in February.
- February 17 is also a district Professional Development Day. Presidents day weekend will be extra long, Friday, Monday, Tuesday.
- Camera/Buzz in entry into the school-How has this gone? Next year all electronic locks will be updated with the office being able to lock and unlock doors. SCC is pleased with how it’s going and continues to support showing of ID.
- HATS OFF Nomination ideas/assign those who will work on. Due in March. Glen will make sure parents get this link and will encourage them to take the opportunity to nominate someone.
- Review School goals. Choose 3 or 4 that would be most appropriate for School Trustlands Plan. These goals also depend on what we would like to use the money for

- Approve January 12 Minutes Motion to Approve: Glen Seconded: Alyse Vote to Approve: Kiesha, Brooke, Dallas, Valarie, Alyse, Glen
- Review current Trustland budget Budget item for Employee Training fixed. It previously had not been taken out of this budget. The district secretary made the adjust to place it on this budget.
- Discussion:
- Use of FTE money in our plan to replace two chromebook labs as too our plan, due to not having to use the funds set aside for FTE. This was discussed and all agreed that this adjustment should move forward as it falls in line with how the plan was written.
- Applied for a CEF matching grant to add Chromebooks to 2nd Grade.
- Rough draft of Trustland Plan due April 13 This rough draft was approved. Each member received one and were asked to read carefully to proof read and become familiar with content.
- Includes: Writing/Math aide funds for upper grades, ½ of classroom technology needs (replacement technology), funds for a group of teachers to attend PLC conference in SLC, Netsmartz assembly. Also, some for part of an FTE. Steering Committee will work on TSSA grant application. Part of an FTE will be included in that as well to make ½ and FTE when combined.
- Feb 16 Board Meeting at which our teacher of the year will be recognized.
- ShaReece Kunz has been chosen by the staff to be our teacher of the year. Also, Darrin Hall was chose to be Classified Employee of the Year, and Katherine Mitton as Volunteer of the year.

- Plans for Parent/Teacher Conferences March 2, 3 March 2 No Kindergarten/Rest of the students released at 1:00 p.m. Conferences 2-8 p.m. March 3 No Students/Conferences 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Parent Window to make appointments Feb. 17-27.
- Musical Performance March 10, 11 Valarie reported that all is coming along well.
- 10. PTO Evening of the Arts Feb. 23
- Kindergarten Registration – on going this year. No round up, but on March 2 we will be available in the evening for parents to drop off their documents for registration. This is the late night of Parent/Teacher Conferences.
- Chromebook sale Monday ,Feb. 13 4:30 p.m. These are chromebooks that are out of warrenty and can’t receive updates. This means that they can’t safely be used on our network, but probably have a year or two left of home use. They will be $25 dollars. Notice has been made in the newsletter.
- Parental Input forms for next year classes will be available in the office during the month of March (including parent conferences).

March 9, 2023

- Approve the minutes from February 9, 2023 Brooke motioned to approve the minutes. Kiesha seconded the motion. All were in favor.
- Review current Trustland budget
- Discuss adjustments to spend down by March 31. Last day to submit expenditures. The district has one error on our budget that is suppose to be fixed. It is on the salaries. At the rate we are using our funds we should be well under the requirement to have less then 10% of our funds for the year left over.
- Review Evening of the Arts
- Should we move this to the Fall? The discussion was that may in the Fall we would have better participation. We’ll pass this feedback on to the PTO.
- School Musical Report.
- The show goes on Friday and Saturday. The show is this Friday and Saturday. Valerie mentioned that student management during practices was the hardest it has ever been. Not sure why the difference compared to previous years.
- Review Parent Conferences Council
- members felt it went well.
- Kindergarten Registration
- Low participation so far.
- Parental Input forms are now in the office
- Due date is March 31.
- 6th Grade South Cache Registration/Tour March 14.
- Report on Hats Off awards
- The due date is past. We’ve asked but haven’t heard how many nominations we received.
- Discuss/Possibly Approve Trustland Plan for 2023-2024. Refer to draft form of plan from last month.
- We reviewed again the major elements of the plan. Brooke motioned that we approve the 2023-2024 School Trustlands Plan. Kiesha seconded the motion. Voting in favor of the motion: Glen, Valerie, Alyse, Dallas, Brooke, Kiesha. Voting against: None
- Review Open Seats for the community council for next year.
- Kiesha and Valerie’s terms expire this year. Both would like to be considered again for these open seats. Glen will make notice of the open seats in the school newsletter.
