WELLSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Wellsville, Utah 84339

Glen Harris, Principal

Dear Parents and Students,                                                                                                             August 1, 2025

I hope you’ve been enjoying your summer and using it to refresh yourselves.  As you look ahead to the new school year we hope that this letter will contain some information that will be helpful to you.  As a school, we’re excited for the upcoming school year, and our staff is looking forward to seeing everyone again.  Just as a reminder we do have one new classroom teacher that will be joining our staff.  This is Natalie Bostock (5th Grade).  Mrs. Bostock taught 3rd grade previously with us for many years, and we are excited to have her back with us and she is very excited to be here.  We will also have a new music teacher in Karalee Monson and a new P.E. teacher.  Her name is Tia Sandy.  They look forward to working with your kids and getting to know them.

School begins on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 for grades 1-6

School begins for Kindergarten on August 25, 2025

The Daily Schedule will be as follows:

Monday-Thursday                                                                            9:00 a.m. - 3:35 p.m.

Friday                                                                                                    9:00 a.m. - 2:20 p.m.

On August 5 and 7 our incoming kindergarten students will be coming to school to take what the state calls the KEEP assessment.  Once we have all these assessments complete, we will make our kindergarten class lists and share them with parents. We hope to have this done by August 15.  Once again, our teachers will be having their professional learning community (PLC) meetings on Fridays.  This is why students have a shortened day on Fridays.  During this time, teachers will be receiving training, discussing student and instructional improvement, reviewing data, etc.  Most schools hold these PLC’s right after school on Friday.  Our school comes to school at 7:30 a.m. to hold these meetings.  We have found that is a more effective time for us to meet, while we feel fresh for the day.

There will be 1 professional development day for teachers during the course of the school year.  Students will not attend school on that day.  This will be on February 13.  In addition, there will be 2 Teacher Prep days, days students will not attend school.  They will be September 26 and Feb. 27.  Parent/Teacher Conferences will occur on October 2, 3 and March 5, 6.  The first day of each of these conferences the students will be released at 1:00 p.m. and on the second day of the conferences there will be no school for all of the students.

We try to keep our on-line calendar up to date at our school website.  Please refer to that for upcoming events and activities.

Here are a few other notes:

·         Bus stop locations and times are posted online at the district web site under departments, then click on transportation (www.ccsdut.org), or click here.

·         Please keep your e-mail up to date.  This is how all school to parent communication is facilitated.  If you are not receiving the weekly PTO Newsletter that comes out on Mondays by e-mail please let us know.  Each weekly newsletter will also be posted on our school website.  You can view it there if you don’t get an e-mail.  Lunch Menus also are sent out with these weekly newsletters.

·         Arrival for school should be no earlier than 8:45 a.m.  We do not have supervision on the grounds before that time.  The exception to this is for those who are eating school breakfast (they start serving at 8:40 a.m.) or those involved in before school activities like the Mountain West String orchestra.

·         Back to School Night is scheduled for Monday, August 18 5:30-7:00 p.m.   It will be an open house so come any time during the posted hours and meet your new teacher.  Wellsville Elementary School folders will be handed out with dates, schedules, guidelines and policies.  Please review this information.

·         To gain access to district forms and policies such as, Free and Reduced Lunch applications, District School Fee Notice, District policies for attendance, Bullying and Hazing, cell phone, student appropriate internet use, and the FERPA privacy act, go to our school webpage (wellsville.ccsdut.org) and you’ll find the link by clicking on Parents once going to Back to School Information.  As you scroll down you’ll see a heading called School Forms and Policies.  This is where these documents can be found, or click here.

·         Thanks for your help and patience with buzzing into the school to get entry.  This will continue with all of doors remaining locked during the course of the day.

Thank you so much at helping us make an improvement in lowering our Chronic Absent Rate for our school!  Chronic absenteeism is considered being absent 18 or more times during the school year.  We decreased this rate by 25% this past school year!  We still have some work to do to get it to our before COVID rate of 5%.  We had a 15% rate this past school year.  Academic achievement is closely linked to high attendance.  Help us help your kids learn at their best at school by having them here often and on time.  We also decreased our tardy rate by 15%.  It’s important to get the day started right by being on time.  It also makes our teachers more effective if they can get everyone started at the same time, and they don’t have to intrude on other students’ time, by taking time to repeat instructions to late comers.  Thanks again for your help with all of this.

Our schoolwide behavior initiative will once again be based on the principles of Leadership and Kindness.  Our theme for the year is, “Wolf Cubs Lead with Kindness”.  Parents thanks for sending us such great kids to work with.  Wellsville Elementary is a special place to learn, with a safe and positive learning environment.  Our staff are an impressive group of educational professionals who love kids and love to help them achieve their best.  It’s a pleasure to be welcoming you back to school.  At the bottom of this letter we have included our school dress policy.  Please keep it in mind as you purchase new school clothes for the new school year.

                                                                                                                          See you soon!

                                                                                                                                          Mr. Harris
